2017 UK Award Part 1
24 Hour Soho Entertainment Centre

Andrei-Ciprian Cojocaru’s project explores the possibilities of creating adaptable spaces within a context filled with variety in the heart of London. The multiuse complex hosts the famous Berwick Street Market and creates a new home for a concert and performance venue. The proposal focuses on using technology to interchange the spaces from day to night and allow for its continuous use in a 24-hour period.

Providing a market, outdoor seating areas as well as a fully usable theatre, the building also provides roof gardens for market produce, as well as offices and a restaurant/café. The concept of movement and adaptability has its traces throughout the design, as the large steel and glass structure allows for movement to be observed, indirectly, from all areas. A gantry stage is also integrated in the roof of the proposal, which allows for unique performances to be hosted within the main space, while the market stalls would retract into the floor to allow for spectators.
