SOM Foundation Announces Jury for the 2024 China Fellowship

The SOM Foundation is pleased to announce the jury for the 2024 China Fellowship. This year’s jury will be led by Peter Duncan (Practice Leader at SOM, Shanghai) and will include Wang Lin (Professor, Department of Architecture, School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Researcher, China Urban Governance Institute; Director, Center for Urban Studies, Shanghai) and Sun Yimin (Dean and Professor of School of Architecture, South China University of Technology Guangzhou, Guangzhou).

Peter Duncan (Chair) is China Practice Leader at SOM in Shanghai. With more than twenty-eight years of experience and an extensive portfolio of projects realized throughout China, Duncan plays a key role in driving SOM’s business in the country and continuing its commitments to sustainability, design excellence, and client collaboration. Working closely with SOM's global leadership team, he leads SOM’s Shanghai office while driving the firm’s strategic growth in China and building on the firm's forty-year history in the country. Prior to joining SOM, Duncan served as Chairman, Board Director, and China Managing Director of HASSELL. He has lectured regularly at universities throughout Asia and is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects. He holds degrees from the International Real Estate Business School in Frankfurt, Germany, Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia.

Wang Lin is a Professor in the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her Ph.D. degree in control theory from Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. From Apr. 2010 to Sep. 2010 and Sep. 2011 to Feb. 2012, she was a Guest Researcher at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden. From Jan. 2016 to Mar. 2016, she was a Research Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong. From Jan. 2018 to Aug. 2018, she was a Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard University, and from Aug. 2018 to Jan. 2019, she was a visiting Associate Professor at the Media Lab of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She was a recipient of the Best Theory Paper Award at the 13th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation in 2018, and a recipient of the Excellent Scientific Paper in the Field of Electronic Information in 2020. She is a Senior Member of IEEE, and serves as the Vice Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee on Large Scale Complex Systems, General Secretary of the CSIAM Activity Group on Complex Networks and Complex Systems. Her current research interests are networked systems, and multi-agent systems.

Sun Yimin is the Dean of School of Architecture, South China University of Technology. He is a Doctoral tutor, National Engineering Survey and Design Master, Changjiang Scholar, National Teaching Master, and National Talents of Ten Thousand Talents Project. He is the Young and Middle Aged Expert with outstanding contributions, the first Guangdong Engineering Survey Design Master, and enjoys special allowance from the State Council. Concurrently. He is also the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of the Subtropical Building Science, standing director of the Chinese Architectural Society, deputy chairman of the sports architecture professional committee of the Chinese Sports Science Association, and member of the Urban Design Expert Committee of the Ministry of Construction. Committed to large-scale public construction projects and urban design, he has received national and international architectural and urban design awards.
