SOM Foundation Announces Topic for 2023–2024
The SOM Foundation is pleased to announce the topic for 2023–2024. This year’s awards will focus on the topic of “Adapting Housing Strategies to Respond to New Realities.”
“Adapting Housing Strategies to Respond to New Realities” seeks to explore affordable, equitable, and innovative modes of multifamily housing that respond to current and future needs. These housing strategies need to consider changing demographics, collectivity, economy, work patterns, and the environment, through the exploration of design strategies, community engagement, economic models, and legal policies. With housing costs continuing to escalate and adequate housing remaining inaccessible for many in our communities, we need to think and build in a smart and sustainable way, update existing housing developments, and foster the adaptive reuse of other existing typologies to create thriving communities and healthy neighborhoods.
The call for applications to the Research Prize, European Research Prize, and Robert L. Wesley Award will open in September 2023. The call for applications to the Structural Engineering Fellowship will open in January 2024 and the call for application to the China Fellowship will open in February 2024.
