As part of the AIA Conference on Architecture 2022 taking place in Chicago, the AIA Chicago’s A’22 Exhibits Committee has invited a series of Chicago-based nonprofit organizations and universities to exhibit their work. The SOM Foundation is honored to be invited to the conference and is taking this opportunity to highlight the winners of the 2020 and 2021 Robert L. Wesley Award.
Award recipients include Kevin Chow (2021), Viridiana Hernandez Sevilla (2020 and 2021), Alexander Htet Aung Kyaw (2021), Sanjana Lahiri (2021), Xiluva Mbungela (2021), Corey Norman (2020), Temiloluwa Osanyintolu (2020), Daniella Slowik (2020), and Kenya Stewart (2020).
In 2020, the SOM Foundation created the Robert L. Wesley Award—named in honor of the first Black partner at SOM—to support BIPOC undergraduate students enrolled in architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, urban design, or engineering programs in the United States. Each year, three students will receive a $10,000 award in addition to a yearlong mentorship program that connects the students with leading BIPOC practitioners and educators. The awards are unrestricted in their use to best support the needs of students. Read more about the award and the winners here.
